So you want to start an internet marketing campaign for your business but you do not know where to start. What do you do? In this brief article I will explain some of the most common challenges you will face in launching your first internet campaign.

Determining your goals for the campaign is essential. What do you want your clients or prospects to do? Do you want them to buy a product or service? Do you want them to sign up for something? Do you want them to opt-in to your website so you can send them company info forever? What do you want your clients or prospects to do?

Now you know why you are starting an marketing campaign, but how far are going to take it? If you want customers to come in to buy a pizza taking your campaign globally may not serve your purpose. If you want clients or prospects to order one of your frozen pizza’s for delivery that is a whole different story. If you are targeting locally you need use local city names and language to connect with your clients or prospects. So what is your scope?

You are now at the “What tools am I going to use for my internet marketing campaign” phase. Pay per click ads, online ads with local ad agencies, social media, and video marketing? They can all be useful, but they also require some knowledge to get the biggest bang for your buck. This is where small testing samples are vital. If no one is clicking your pay per click ad, but you have hundreds of clients or prospects viewing one of your videos, guess what?

In order to determine if an internet marketing campaign really is right for you, you need to be able to track what ever tool you use. That is why I do not recommend radio, TV commercials and especially print ads in newspapers and the nearly extinct yellow pages. Internet marketing can be tracked in various ways and as technology continues to go mobile it is essential to stay ahead of your competition. If you are not on the internet to be found by somebody looking for you on their iPods and smart phones you are losing customers money and wasting money on advertising that does not work.

These are just some of challenges you will face in launching your first internet marketing campaign. Research and a little know how can go a long way though in being overwhelmed. The best part of internet marketing campaigns for me though is that they can be done for pennies not dollars and when it comes to business it just makes more sense.
